 Leeds North East Labour MP Fabian Hamilton has been forced by Commons Authorities to pay back £5673 in in expenses payments which he was not entitled to.
The Labour MP's total repayment, which was made on Monday, includes:
£3,874 in second home expenses which he did not notice had been paid by the Commons authorities to him twice;
£980 in expenses for decorating his Leeds home just over a month before he changed the designation of his second home to a flat in London;
£819 in interest payments accrued during a change in mortgage providers.
Mr Hamilton, who apealled against Sir Thomas Legg's request for him to repay overclaimed expenses was quoted in the Yorkshire Evening Post saying, "The only thing you can blame me for is not noticing two large sums of money coming into my account."
Matthew Lobley commented, "I think it's fair to say we are all sick and tired and this squalid expenses affair."
