 | Candidates meet with Steven Hammond MP, Shadow Transport Minister |
 |
Matthew Lobley and fellow candidates from across Leeds met recently with Steven Hammond MP, Shadow Minister for Transport to discuss transport issues in Leeds.
"I was pleased to have this opportunity to really get across my point that Leeds has missed on every opportunity in the last decade, " commented Matthew. "There are several things I want to see in Leeds starting with proper public transport links to the airport, perhaps by-tram-train if feasible. We also need a decent public transport system along the most congested routes into the city."
A 'Next Generation Transport' system is proposed for Leeds but this scheme (trolley bus) is again a poor relation to what we see in other major cities which have underground systems or trams. Matthew believes the most important thing is at least one major route installed and then there can be justification for expansion of the network over time as has been seen in Sheffield and Manchester.
"Our Labour MPs in Leeds have managed to achieve little for the city because they do not work together. My colleagues and I intend to work very closely so that Leeds stops missing out and gets what it needs to succeed in the future."
